The Nature of Evidence: How Do You Know, while focusing on the first-year experience, is a university wide initiative. As such, much interdepartmental collaboration is needed and desired to ensure that this plan will serve our students in the most productive and sustainable ways possible.
To this end, committees were carefully selected to ensure representation from major disciplinary areas (Natural/Physical Sciences and Mathematics, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Interdisciplinary Studies), Campus Life, Emory Libraries, and the Office of Undergraduate Education.
Since the QEP is being designed as a sustainable program that will exist long after the five-year plan has expired, QEP specific staffing is limited to a half-time faculty director and a full-time program coordinator.
QEP Faculty Director - Dr. Tracy Scott
Dr. Tracy L. Scott is the Director of Emory’s Quality Enhancement Plan on The Nature of Evidence: How Do You Know, and a Senior Lecturer in Sociology.
Dr. Scott received an A.B. in Economics from Stanford University, an MA in Theology from Fuller Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Princeton University.
While finishing her dissertation about gender and religious differences in work values, Dr. Scott became involved in healthcare research. She continued in that field for 11 years, first as a senior researcher at the Prudential Center for Health Care Research and then as a Research Assistant Professor at Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University.
Although Dr. Scott valued her time in healthcare research, her primary passion is teaching and mentoring students. In 2007, she moved into teaching full time with the Sociology Department at Emory University.
Dr. Scott focuses her teaching on making connections between the evidence produced by social research and everyday life. Her goal is that students use this evidence to understand the world more critically, be more reflective in their actions, and make more informed choices in their own lives.
